Since 2001, the Algerian government has set a national environmental strategy which has resulted in the National Action Plan for Environment and Sustainable Development (NEAP-SD). On the waste management matter, the NEAP-SD is split into two programs:

1- Municipal Solid Waste Management Program (PROGDEM)

2- National Plan for Special Waste Management (PNAGDES)

 

During 2016, GEM Company will start a first project in the PROGDEM program, near the city of Laghouat. The project will consist in the realization of a plant to manage and recycle general waste, and the production of composts (organic fertilizers) and animal feeds from the same plant.
